For many young women, landing a job interview can be an undertaking in and of itself, especially if you are a recent college graduate looking for jobs in a competitive market.   Picking the appropriate outfit is crucial because it communicates a considerable amount of information before you even introduce yourself.  Now that you have the interview, make sure you dress for success.

If you don’t have a job yet, chances are you don’t have a lot of extra income to spend on an entire brand new outfit at retail price.  Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to look professional.  There are plenty of ways to look amazing for your job interview and not break the bank.  You can borrow key pieces of clothing from a friend (ie: blazer or shoes) or you can get some amazing bargains at your local consignment or thrift shops.  Every single piece of clothing in my outfit today was purchased from various consignment stores around me, including the shoes and accessories.

When choosing an outfit to wear for a job interview, my first piece of advice is do not wear denim.  Choose either a well fitted pair of dress pants or pencil skirt.  These pants from Banana Republic still had the original tags on them, and I bought them for a fraction of the price at a local consignment shop.  When putting together the rest of your outfit, pick one item that will give the interviewer a peak into your personality in an appropriate manner.  I wore this blazer, originally from New York and Company, as an example because I took the factory buttons off and replaced them with fun metallic buttons that stand out just the right amount.  This shirt, originally from The Limited, adds a great pop of color and has a dainty silk border around the collar that is just darling.

Of course you will have to be the ultimate judge of what is the most appropriate for the job you are interviewing for.  When you meet your potential boss be sure you make good eye contact, smile, and do plenty of research about the company before you arrive so you can ask meaningful questions. Oh, and one more thing!  There is this great new app called Poshmark which you can buy and sell your new or used good-condition clothing and accessories.  It’s totally legit, and incredibly easy.  You should check it out, I highly recommend it! My username is @magsteroni if you want to follow me.  Be careful, it’s addicting!

Also, here is a great resource from my Alma mater which you may find helpful.
