Between the Floorboards

This week did not go as I had planned. (That probably never happens to you right?) As you know, Brandon and I recently bought a house. We made the offer in June and after a long summer of waiting, we closed on it just about 2 weeks ago. We knew when we signed those papers that it was going to be a project house. Before we bought our new home, whenever we would look at potential houses in the past, we agreed that we wanted something that we could improve upon, not a move-in ready house. This is exactly the type of project house we were looking for- and you can’t beat the view of the river!

Our house is over 100 years old. We found out the day we bought it that back in the day, it used to be a chicken coop! Over the years, improvements and additions were made to the house to be what it is today. While we were waiting to close on the house, we made dozens of different floor plan ideas using the Icovia Room Planner program through the Pottery Barn website. We decided that we would take on a huge project upstairs before we moved in. Brandon and I are spending every spare moment we have at our house renovating it before the cold comes. Already we have ripped out all the walls, insulation and basically stripped it down to the studs and joists. We are meeting with an architect this afternoon to discuss further plans.

As it goes with an older house, we have discovered a few minor issues along the way of uncovering the walls and floorboards. We originally planned to move in to our house at the end of this month, but now it looks as though it wont be until the end of November! As we were scrambling to figure out what we were going to to, close friends of ours have agreed to host us (and our things!) next month. I am just completely humbled and grateful to our close friends and family who have offered to help us during this time.  We wouldn’t be this far without your support, encouragement and your hammer! Thank you!
